Ceanel concentrate is a medicated shampoo that contains two active ingredients, cetrimide and undecenoic acid.
Cetrimide is an antiseptic that kills certain types of bacteria, fungi and viruses that live on the skin. It also acts as a detergent to remove debris and scale from the skin surface.
Undecenoic acid kills certain fungi that can live on or infect the skin.
Ceanel concentrate can be used to reduce the numbers of micro-organsims living on the skin and scalp and can be helpful in the management of psoriasis of the scalp, trunk and limbs, dandruff and in an inflammatory condition known as seborrhoeic dermatitis.
Seborrhoeic dermatitis is believed to result from overgrowth or increased sensitivity to a fungus commonly found on the skin and scalp, called Malassezia (previously called Pityrosporum ovale). Dandruff is is considered to be a mild form of seborrhoeic dermatitis. Reducing the numbers of this fungi on the skin and scalp can help to keep these conditions under control.
